How to Choose The Best Blue Light Glasses?

The best blue light glasses are simply those that can block blue light effectively.  At the same time, they shall allow the good blue light to pass through. Blue light generally is defined as visible light ranging from 380 to 500 nm in the light spectrum. It is sometimes further broken down into blue-violet light (roughly 380 to 450 nm) and blue-turquoise light (roughly 450 to 500 nm). The blue-violet light is the one you need to avoid.

Blue Light Research

American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has identified the wavelengths of blue light hazard and the peak Hazard Factor (Blue Light Hazard Factor B(λ), which defines the sensitivity of the human eye to low wavelength spectrum emissions) at 425 nm to 450 nm. That is where blue light will “fry” your eyes.

Beware of Blue Light Glasses Scams

Most people would think that buying blue light glasses is easy.  Some may even think that all blue light glasses are the same.   Unfortunately, that is not the case.  All the lenses are made differently; in materials, ways of blocking blue light (coating vs built-in), lens quality, polishing, composition, etc.  As a result, the amount and the wavelengths of blue light in which they block will vary greatly.

Marketing Tactics

Most of the blue light glasses sellers do not tell you what wavelengths of blue light they block.   Most if not all will simply say, they block 40%, 60%, 90%, or even 95%.  But that in fact is meaningless without knowing the wavelength of the blue light they block.  Two very popular brands simply claim they can block 90%-95% of high-energy, “most harmful” blue light.  Little do people know that they actually referring to blocking the < 420nm wavelength.  That is NOT the wavelength where blue light will do the most damage to your eyes.  In essence, they are misleading consumers.  Do not fall for the scam.  These deceiving marketing tactics from many sellers of “blue light glasses” today selling glasses that are essentially useless.

What to look for

Wavelength from 425 nm to 450 nm is where we shall be worried about according to ANSI research.  Blue light damage peak at 440-450nm.   Before purchase, always ask how many % of blue light do they block at 425 to 450 nm.  Do not even consider anything that can only block less than 50% of overall blue light.

Unfortunately, most of the current near-clear blue light glasses will protect you at less than 35% where the blue light will fry your eyes! The extra blue light coating that the opticians try to sell you when you buy your glasses will block even less. The worst offenders that we have seen are “blue light glasses” with nothing more than just a yellow tint that does absolutely nothing to protect your eyes! Do not be a victim. Be an informed consumer.

Ezekiel-ion Glasses

Ezekiel-ion glasses are designed to ensure that they can truly protect you from the harsh blue light, precisely and effectively.  The anti-blue light property is baked in, not coated.   The lenses will block adequately the most harmful blue light at its peak.  The overall blue light protection is 85% while protecting you at the most dangerous wavelength of 440 nm -450 nm at 61%.  This is the highest in the “near-clear” lens category. Of course, we can go higher, but most people don’t want to walk around in glasses with yellow or orange lenses and we don’t expect you to either.

Ezekiel-ion glasses are not just good blue light glasses, they are actually the best blue light glasses.  Because our eyes deserve the best protection.
